Craft for a Greater Good is the result of a collaboration between The Furniture Society, BeLoved, and STEAM Studio. BeLoved, a local non-profit, is building a village of 12 micro-homes in East Asheville to address the housing crisis in our community. In this class, students explore concepts of home, tiny spaces, and storage designs. In its first iteration, students made three built-in furniture pieces for BeLoved’s first home. We collaborated with artists in residence Ellie Richards and Annie Evelyn to explore design concepts and techniques.
This collaboration is ongoing and will continue with a focus on outdoor furniture culminating in The Furniture Society Conference. The goal of this class collaboration is to build community and connection through service within Asheville and to inspire the next generation of makers.
